As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we often talk about the goodness of God, but we must also be intimately familiar with the greatness of God as well. God is good, and God is great! He is Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the end. If we turned the page of time to a place 65 billion years ago, God would be there. He is as extraordinarily loving, holy, righteous, and full of grace as He has always been, because He declares in Malachi 3:6(NLT), “I am the LORD, and I do not change.” Isaiah 40:15(NLT) says, “No, for all the nations of the world are but a drop in the bucket. They are nothing more than dust on the scales. He picks up the whole earth as though it were a grain of sand.” God has no equal. He’s our Creator, and Heavenly Father, and we should marvel at His greatness and His love for us every day of our lives.
Faith in His greatness
Jesus Christ commands us in Matthew 6:33(NLT), “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” God, and the relationship we share with Him must be our greatest priority in life. Jesus Christ also commands us in Luke 10:27 to love God with all our hearts, minds, souls, and strength; this means to love Him with all that we are. A failure to love God this way puts us out of harmony with our Creator, and therefore, out of harmony with His Will. 1Timothy 2:4 tells us that He wants everyone to be saved and to embrace the knowledge of His Word and Will, because His Word and Will is life to us. His Word and Will is the path to a blessed and abundant existence.
We were created by God to live fully in Him through Jesus Christ. All of us desire to have a full existence, because it’s in our make-up to do so. We want to express ourselves and be fulfilled in the fullest way possible, but we can’t do this if we don’t honor our relationship with God. Nehemiah 8:10 tells us that the joy of the Lord is our strength! When our faith in the greatness of God continually increases, we will grow in spiritual strength and live boldly before Him.
2Peter 3:8(NLT) tells us, “But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day.” Even a single ant on the land of a thousand worlds couldn’t portray the tininess of all the nations on earth compared to the expanse of God’s being and existence. Daniel 4:35(NLT) says, “All the people of the earth are nothing compared to him. He does as he pleases among the angels of heaven and among the people of the earth. No one can stop him or say to him, 'What do you mean by doing these things?'” God is great in every way imaginable, and our faith in this expresses our love for Him and our gratitude for all that He is.
He is greater than His creation
Ephesians 2:10(NLT) says, “For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Our Heavenly Father calls us His finest work. He created us in His image, and as the psalmist, King David, said in Psalm 139:14, we are fearfully and wonderfully made. God’s works are indeed marvelous, but we must never forget that God is greater than all His creations. Jesus Christ said in John 4:24(NLT), “For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth." He is everywhere present, and He is with each of us every moment of each day. This is all the comfort that any of us will ever need. He tells us in Romans 8:35 that nothing—not trouble, disaster, persecution, hunger, poverty, danger, or death—can separate us from His love.
God is all-powerful and all-knowing. In Exodus 3:14(NLT), He told Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent me to you." Our Heavenly Father is the Great I Am and Acts 17:28 tells us that it is in Him that we live, move, and have our being. We can’t help but be thankful to Him when we understand, trust, and celebrate God’s greatness. He tells us in Isaiah 55:9 that just as the heavens are higher than the earth, His ways and thoughts are so much higher and greater than ours, and so is His love. He cares about every detail of our existences, and He will never fail, disappoint, or leave us. We can count on His infallible goodness and perfection for all eternity, because He never changes, and He will forever and always be great!∎
