There isn’t anything that God doesn’t know. He is all powerful, all knowing, and everywhere present. 1John 1:5 declares that He is all light and there is no darkness in Him at all. Psalm 84:11(NLT)tells us, “For the LORD God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The LORD will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.” When we place our trust in God, He blesses us and shields us from all hurt, harm, and danger. God knows us intimately, and when we go to Him with the desires of our hearts, Jesus Christ said in Matthew 6:8 that Heavenly Father knows the things we need even before we ask Him. And
not only does God know exactly what we need, He knows exactly how to provide it. Our Heavenly Father doesn’t skip a beat. Although it may sound redundant to state the obvious, He’s awesomely brilliant, and we must remind ourselves of this truth continually.
One of the reasons that we must constantly remind ourselves of God’s omnipotence is because sometimes we forget. We make the mistake of thinking that God needs to go on a fact-finding mission to discover who we are. We think that He doesn't know exactly what we're going to do before we do it. God isn’t playing games with us. He doesn’t need to do things to try and find out how we will respond. The truth is that God already knows everything there is to know about us. He knew us even before we entered our mother’s wombs. He knows the number of hairs on our heads, and He knows the number of days we will have upon this earth.
So, the question isn’t whether God knows us. The question is whether we know ourselves. Much of our lives is spent searching for who we are, when God has already defined our being and told us exactly who we are. Romans 8:29(NLT) tells us, “For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.” We are in the earth to make the greatest statement about God’s masterful design. He calls us His masterpiece, and He created us in Christ to do all the good things He wants us to do. But if we’re being honest, most of us don’t feel like masterpieces. Some of us are confused about life because it isn’t turning out the way we expected.
Jesus Christ told us in Matthew 6:33 to seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness first, and all the blessings we earnestly desire and need will be added to us. This is God’s promise, and Heavenly Father always keeps His promises. But in this verse, He has also laid out a condition, and this condition is that we seek Him first.
I heard a very well-known celebrity say, “I am an actress, and I will do anything for my craft.” There is no doubt she takes a great deal of pride in her profession, so much so that she thinks it defines her. She has placed her profession so high on a pedestal that she has publicly declared she’ll do whatever it takes to preserve its ideal. She believes the artistic expression of acting is so noble and high that it deserves every ounce of her effort. “I give myself over totally to portraying a character.” She said. I wondered if she felt that way about God. I wondered if she had ever totally given herself over to Heavenly Father with the same zeal and passion that she had given to portraying a character.
We can loose spiritual ground very quickly when we deny our identity in Christ and think that anything in the world can make us whole. Heavenly Father wants us to enjoy a rich and satisfying life. This is why He sent His only begotten Son to the earth, but He has made it clear that the creation is not greater than the Creator. God is our Source and placing Him in the number one spot by living through Jesus Christ is the key to living a blessed existence.
It is because of God that we can love others. It is because of Him that we can love ourselves and love what we do in life; but loving what we do in life can’t come before loving Him. He makes it possible for us to enjoy so many things. From the very beginning, He placed Adam in the Garden of Eden, and it was the most glorious and exquisite paradise. This reveals God’s heart that we always enjoy His best. After giving Adam and Eve such a luxurious and lush habitation, God then gave Adam the responsibility for managing and caring for the beautiful habitat God had given him. This reveals that Heavenly Father requires us to have an understanding that He is the One that has given us everything. He has demonstrated the generous nature of how His love operates. God gives generously because He is love and that is what love does, but God has also demonstrated that we must respond to His generosity. Our response should be thankfulness and gratitude, and it should be reflected in our obedience and trust in His Holy Word.
Life is an opportunity to prove our love for God, and by proving our love for Him, we affirm that through Jesus Christ, we are love ourselves. We are created in God’s image and we are modeled after Christ. Our very framework is love and the choice to add to this framework is forever before us. You and I don’t get to tell God how love behaves, He has told us, and He has shown us through Jesus Christ. We are not defined by what we do, we are defined by our Creator. Living through the love of Christ is the only way to walk in His light. We desperately need this for our lives, so that we can know who we are and walk in all God has created us to be.■
