The level of love that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, has for us is awe-inspiring. The reality that he left the throne of our Heavenly Father to come to earth to save us is almost too much to fathom, but this is the beautiful truth upon which all of us live, breathe, and have our being. We are loved so profoundly by Christ that once we accept his love, we will be saved for all eternity. We get to be with him and celebrate the goodness of God with a joy that is all consuming and full of His glory. We think we know what it is to experience Jesus now, but when we’re transformed and know him as fully as we are known, nothing on earth can compare. Our Savior is humble and powerful, and we have the privilege and responsibility to not only know him, but to build our lives upon all that he is.
Our faith in Jesus Christ, and what God accomplished for us through him, places us squarely on the path of God’s Will, and this is where God has destined us to be. Ephesians 1:3-6(NLT) says, “3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. 4 Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. 5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. 6 So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.” Even before the foundation of the world, God knew we would be His, and He knew that through His love, He would save and bring us into His family. He did this because He’s a God of genuine, real love, and it delights Him to lavish His love on us.
God has highly favored us through His plan of grace, and this plan was mentioned in Genesis 3:15, when our Heavenly Father prophesied that satan would crucify Jesus, and that Jesus Christ, born to the virgin, Mary, would destroy the government of satan’s kingdom of darkness. It is God who set redemption’s plan in motion, and He did it because of His unconditional, limitless love for us all. John 3:16(NLT) tells us, “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” Everything begins and culminates in Jesus Christ. Our Heavenly Father wants us to be continually reminded that we are born of His Spirit and into God’s family through His beloved Son. Our lives are in him, and we are to mirror his example to such a degree that our faith in God in Christ defines us utterly and completely.
Our beloved Lord didn’t come to the earth with terrific fanfare and celebration. He was not lavished in luxury or adorned with the finest of all there is. He was born in a manger, a place where some of the farm animals were kept. There was no room for Joseph and his pregnant wife, Mary, in the inn, and this conveys to us the humility of God, our Father, and the humility with which His beloved Son lived and carried out his ministry. 1Timothy 6:15(NLT) declares, “For at just the right time Christ will be revealed from heaven by the blessed and only almighty God, the King of all kings and Lord of all lords.” Again, Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of our almighty and sovereign God. There is no human in the history of humanity that is more worthy of majesty, glory, and honor than Christ. Yet, he did not demand those things as he walked the earth and carried forth his ministry. He humbled himself to serve humanity, and he did this when we were at our worse.
The most important thing to Jesus Christ is the Word and Will of God. When he was tempted by the devil after having fasted forty days and nights in the wilderness, our Master Jesus didn’t cave. He knew the power of God’s Word, and Matthew 4 tells us he responded to every temptation with “It is written…” He didn’t interject his own opinions or make up words on his own. He released the power of God by speaking forth what God says, and we must do the same.
Through the life and sacrifice of our blessed Savior, God has taught us that humility is required for all His children. 1Peter 5:6(NLT) tells us, “So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.” A proud and arrogant person won’t be able to experience the richness of God’s grace, but when we humble ourselves under Him, 1Peter 5:6 tells us that He will elevate us. He’ll cause us to prosper on every hand. We know this because our precious Savior didn’t stay in the grave. God got Him up on the third day by the power of His Holy Spirit! Our Lord and Savior rose from the dead with utter victory and power!
Romans 6:9-10(NLT) declares, “9 We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him. 10 When he died, he died once to break the power of sin. But now that he lives, he lives for the glory of God.” Our Great Redeemer finished the mission that God sent him to earth to do. He showed us the heart of our Heavenly Father as he healed, delivered, and restored so many people. Thanks, and glory be to God that the ministry of our Heavenly Father’s love and power didn’t end with our Savior’s crucifixion. Our new lives began with his resurrection! The grave did not defeat Christ; it increased his influence and power, because through him, you and I are saved! We can live by his example and bask in God’s glory in everything that we do. It’s all because God gave us a humble and powerful Savior who has set free from the power of sin.and made it possible for us to have victory in every aspect of our lives. ■
