What do you do when everything you’ve always counted on is slipping through your fingers? All of us count on institutions, agencies, relationships, communities, and businesses to maintain and support the lifestyle we’re accustomed to. Whatever comfort we derive in our daily living, most of us have attributed it to one or all of these platforms. We’ve done this to such an extent that we’ve forgotten we’re spiritual beings living in a world in which everything belongs to God and exists only because of Him. 2Corinthians 3:5(NKJV) says, “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God.” This is the truth of our reality. God is our Source and acknowledging this truth in everything we do will keep the doors of His bounty and blessings continually open.
Most people will not argue with the fact that the world feels upside down. It is easy to allow ourselves to become very discouraged by this. It should never be lost on us that discouragement is one of the devil’s most common weapons, because it messes with both our minds and our hearts. In our minds, we get confused because we can’t figure out why so many things are going wrong at once. In our hearts, we begin to doubt God’s goodness and feel sad. We think He’s angry with us or is punishing us because we haven’t measured up. Nothing could be further from the truth. God doesn’t bless us based on our goodness; He blesses us based on His.
You and I are partners with God, and in this spectacular partnership, the one thing Heavenly Father asks of us is that we trust and believe His Word. He has elevated His Word above His name. Because of this, we must know that His Word is the truth and that it cannot fail. We should have absolute assurance and faith that if God says it, it must be so. It is also important we understand that the whole subject of God’s Word from start to finish is Jesus Christ. John 1:1, 14(NLT) tells us “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. In this same chapter, John 1:14(NKJV) tells us, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Our start begins with the Word of God, and any trace any of us can do, no matter how far back, is going to always lead us to God’s Word. Jesus Christ wrote the book on the human race. His life defines the example that you and I should model, and his life is the light that should illuminate our whole being. In John 14:6, Jesus Christ tells us that he is the way, the truth, and the life; and that no one can come to the Father except they come through him. In John 14:9, he told Philip, one of his disciples, “Anyone that has seen me has seen the Father.” Everything that God would be and do in human form was done through Jesus Christ. There is no separation between the Father and the Son, and in like manner, there should be no separation between us and Christ.
Romans 8:29(NLT) says, “For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.” Every person that realizes their relationship with God through Jesus Christ is convinced that he is the author and finisher of their existence. Our life begins in him and ends in eternity with him. So, even when we are feeling lonely, we are not alone. The Lord is always with us, and He is a very present help. This is what His Word tells us in Psalm 46:1. We can’t see God, but we must trust His Word and believe Him when He tells us we can count on Him.
You and I are responsible for believing God’s promises. He’s not going to come into our minds and force us to believe, because this is not the way love behaves. Our God is a God of Love. Love gives choices. Love works through faith. We can’t see God with our physical eyes, and we may not feel Him working in our hearts, but 2Corinthians 5:7 says we are to walk by faith and not by sight. So, in times of trouble, when the things we’ve counted on seemed to be all out of whack, God is still on His throne with all power in His hands. He wants us to partner with Him to work in our lives through our faith in Him. We must shift our attitudes, emotions, and thoughts from doubt and pessimism to faith and optimism. We can be confident that God will help us in our times of trouble when we trust Him with our whole hearts and believe that He honors and is faithful to His Word!
