God has a purpose for our lives, and the greatest thing that any of us can ever do is to seek it and live it fully in Christ. This is God’s Will for us, but many people have ignored this truth. They are moving through their lives without giving God’s plan for them a second thought. What we fail to realize is that many of the problems and issues we face are a result of not lining up with God’s plan and purpose. Proverbs 19:21( NLT) tells us, “You can make many plans, but the LORD's purpose will prevail.” God’s desire is that we live by faith, and this means we must live each day guided by His Holy Spirit. He tells us in Proverbs 3:5-6 that we shouldn’t try to navigate this earth experience according to our own understanding. God is the One with the plan, and we must trust it, ask for His guidance, and invite Him into all our choices and decisions.
Being saved through our powerful Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, is an unfathomable gift, privilege, and honor. God tells us in John 3:16(NKJV), “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Our Heavenly Father wants us to be with Him an eternity, and He made it happen through the Lord Jesus Christ. Because of what He’s done for us, we can live according to His purpose and walk with confidence in our Christ-identity. This doesn’t mean we won’t have obstacles to overcome.
Life on earth comes with its own set of challenges and most of us are aware this. Many of the challenges we face are a result of trying to live by our own personal agendas. Often, we want to do, have, and be something that isn’t in line with God’s plan for us. He doesn’t punish us when that is the case, nor will He overstep our choices and decisions. His Will is to guide us according to His plan and purpose, but He will only do this with our invitation and cooperation.
Without God’s accomplishment through the life, sacrifice, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we would be doomed. Every person must believe this truth to receive salvation. Romans 10:9-11(NKLV), “9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame." Humility is required to receive the Lord Jesus into our lives. It’s required to please God, and it is required to live in Christ. We were doomed without God’s gift of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, and because God rescued us, we are saved from death, darkness, and destruction.
Without Christ, we are not equipped to live a life that is pleasing to God and fulfilling to us as well. Jesus Christ said in John 14:15(NKJV), “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” Our obedience to God’s Word demonstrates our love and honor for Him, but a lack of obedience and humility towards Him continues to be a struggle for many people. This is because they want to live by their own wills and not by the Will of God. This is always a recipe for disaster. A plan without God as the head of it is one where we reject, ignore, and rebel against His sovereignty. Whenever we do this, we create an opening for the enemy to attack our lives.
We are God’s created beings, and everything we survey was created by Him and belongs to Him. 1Corinthians 10:26(NLT) tells us, “For “the earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it.” God has invited us, His created beings, to enjoy His Kingdom of manifold blessings, but we have no power or intelligence of which to dictate our own plan and purpose. He sets the rules that govern every aspect of existence; this all belongs to Him. If we fail to humble ourselves under this reality, we will find ourselves on a very destructive course.
Jesus Christ said in John 6:38(NLT), “For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do my own will.”” Jesus Christ laid down his will to do the Will of God. He did this because he knew God’s Will is always and forever the purest, truest, and very best. Through Christ, God has given us the special privilege and honor to be His children. As His kids, we get to partner with Him and with all that He has in store for us. It requires us to lay down our own personal agendas and apply our faith to God’s plan and purpose for our lives.
When we commit to God’s plan, we may not understand everything about what He’s calling us to do. Giving up our plans and switching to His isn’t always easy. There is always a part of us that wants to take control and do things our way. We struggle with patience and endurance, and sometimes we let our fears and doubts run the show, but we need to cast these thoughts aside and refocus our minds on God’s plan. In the Old Testament, He told His people in Jeremiah 29:11(NLT), “For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” This hasn’t changed and is the same for us. God knows the plans He has for each of us, and He only asks that we trust Him and have faith that He will lead and guide us every step of the way.∎
