As we become older, one of the differences we begin to understand more clearly is the distinction between what is truly important in life and what isn’t. It takes most of us a long time to learn this, but we finally realize that it makes no sense whatsoever to sweat the small stuff. We also begin to see that the most valuable asset in our existence is our relationship with Heavenly Father. Through spiritual and mental maturity, we learn that everything, from the least to the greatest, is spiritual; and that without God we are powerless to do anything for ourselves. Life is unpredictable. Things can happen within the blink of an eye. These can be events that totally devastate everything we know, so we must be so incredibly thankful to God for things being as well as they are. We must also know beyond a shadow of doubt that God is the glue that holds everything together.
Hebrews 11:3(NLT) tells us, “By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.” This verse helps us to put God in the most preeminent and holy space in our minds and hearts, because this is what He deserves. Everything was formed at God’s command, and everything that our eyes can see was made from that which we can’t see. Heavenly Father is the Source of it all. 2Corinthians 3:5 says we ought not to think of ourselves as being all that, because our sufficiency, and everything any of us could ever possibly need, comes from God. If we don’t know this and begin to behave in a way that ignores the enormous reality of this knowledge, we will get ourselves in a lot of trouble.
2Corinthians 5:20 tells us that we’re ambassadors for Christ, and as such we represent God’s Kingdom. Jesus Christ taught us in every way how to embrace this call and accomplish the tasks required. In John 5:19, Jesus Christ said that he can do nothing by himself; he does only what he sees the Father doing, and whatever the Father does, he does. In John 8:29(NLT), Jesus said, “And the one who sent me is with me—he has not deserted me. For I always do what pleases him.” Jesus understood God’s love and power, and that God was his Source of everything. Because Jesus knew this, he allowed himself to be an instrument for the Kingdom. He wasn’t forced to give himself to God completely and seek God’s Will preeminently. He had free-will just as you and I have free-will. We get to chose whether or not we’ll use our lives for God’s glory. We don’t have to, but if we want a more than abundant life, we must, because the only way to live a life that’s more than abundant is to live it through Jesus Christ.
Heavenly Father’s primary focus is His Will. He wants His Will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. Jesus Christ taught us that we’re to pray for this continually. God also wants us to recognize that as His ambassadors, we must walk according to His Will, so that we can get things done down here for God’s glory. Jesus Christ said in John 14:12-13(NLT) “12 I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. 13 You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father.” Here in this passage, Jesus lays out for us the duty as well as the reward. Many have misunderstood the impactful truth that Jesus Christ revealed here. They have taken these extraordinary words out of context with a kid-in-a-candy-store mentality. It’s doing the works that Jesus did that allows us to ask anything in his name, and God will do it. The promise is fulfilled when the condition is met.
Its God’s Will that will cause all things to work together for our good. 1John 5:14(NKJV) cosigns this and tells us, “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” Heavenly Father doesn’t want our joy to be less. He wants us to have a fulfilling life, but we must honor Him as our Source, because His love is illuminated through us. We’re His representatives in the earth.
When we attend to our Father’s business, He will provide all we need. He will supply our needs according to His riches in heaven, but we must remember our duty as citizens of His Kingdom as well. We were not called to be weaklings, groveling at the feet of the devil’s trickery, or to be stepped on by the power-brokers of this world. Jesus Christ said in 1John 4:4 that we are of God and have overcome the influence and bondage of this world, because greater is the Spirit of God within us than the evil spirit that is in the world. We can’t get this twisted. God has given us the power through the Lord Jesus Christ to walk with authority and dominion. We’re no one’s door mat. God is our Source and supply. We must know this from the depth of our souls, so that as we minister and bless others, they will be impacted by the richness of God’s love and power that flows through us.
