Ephesians 3:20(ESV) states, “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.” This is the Will of God concerning us. He is able to do infinitely far above anything that you and I could ask or think. He wants us to understand that there are no limits to His power. In less time than a blink of an eye, He could completely obliterate everything and make it as if none of us ever existed. This is how powerful He is, however, 1John 4:8 tells us that God is love. He would never use His power to harm or hurt us. He limits Himself for our sakes. He could blow our minds with what He can do. Our little brains couldn’t handle all the marvelously amazing things He could show us. We can only take in His power in small doses. This is why Ephesians 3:20 very clearly tells us that He demonstrates His power in our lives according to the power we allow to work within us.
We can see why God wants us to build our faith capacity, because it allows us to build a tighter and stronger relationship with Him. It also allows us to walk in His power through His love. The way we do this is by learning about God in His Word. Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes by hearing and perceiving the Word of God. As we read, study, and meditate on it, the Spirit of Christ works within us, strengthening us in ways we can’t begin to imagine. Again, this all begins with the Word. Hebrews 4:12(ESV) tells us, “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
The Word of God is alive! Ephesians 6:17 tells us to put on salvation as our helmet and take the Spirit’s sword which is the Word of God. This is how we stand strong against the plots of the enemy. The Word will keep us energized with life and vitality if we’ll put it on in our minds and hearts, but sometimes life gets hectic. We become so engrossed in what’s happening with the craziness that we forget to align ourselves with God’s statues, and before you know it, we’ve gotten off track to our blessings. Heavenly Father doesn’t want this. He wants to bless us and show us what He can do.
Our God is extremely interested in longevity. He wants us around a long time, and He wants His blessings to keep on flowing, spilling over in us and flooding into the lives of others. This can’t happen if we’re not making our relationship with God the highest priority. Jesus Christ commanded us in Matthew 6:33(NLT), “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” The way to keep the blessings flowing is to put God first and live according to His decrees and statutes. Then, Jesus Christ tells us, He will give us everything we need.
Malachi 3:6 says that God doesn’t change, and neither does His Word. In Deuteronomy 4:1-2(NLT), He spoke through Moses and told His people, “And now, Israel, listen carefully to these decrees and regulations that I am about to teach you. Obey them so that you may live, so you may enter and occupy the land that the Lord, the God of your ancestors, is giving you. Do not add to or subtract from these commands I am giving you. Just obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you.” Many of us have been praying for a long time to receive a blessing that means a lot to us. We want the blessing, of course, but we also want to keep doing what we’re doing. That’s not how God’s plan works.
God’s plan is for us to know what He desires, because His plan is the best, and He always desires the best for us. We cannot do better without knowing His Word, because following it preserves us. Psalms 111:10 states, “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom. Praise him forever!” Obedience to God’s Word is the foundation of true wisdom. It is how we build something of quality and that is long lasting as well. Sometimes we look at our lives, and we don’t recognize them because they’ve become something that is so far from what we envisioned. We must understand that He has empowered us through His Word to realign ourselves and get back on track, so that our lives are in step with HIS vision.
The psalmist, David, said in Psalms 119:5-8(NLT), “Oh, that my actions would consistently reflect your decrees! Then I will not be ashamed when I compare my life with your commands. As I learn your righteous regulations, I will thank you by living as I should! I will obey your decrees. Please don’t give up on me!” David understood the great privilege God has given each of us to build our lives into something beautiful. Let’s use the building blocks of God Word to construct a life that pleases Him. When this is our commitment, the Holy Spirit will help us grow in wisdom, and we will witness blessings of God that are far more abundantly than anything we can ask or think.
